Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Should I reapply Teflon® Advanced protector when I have my carpet cleaned?
A. Yes, reapplication is recommended. Regular household conditions that cause the carpet to need cleaning (for example, sand and dirt in the carpet) can contribute to a gradual "wearing off" of the protector. Reapplication of Teflon® Advanced ensures that the ease of soil removal is maintained.

Q. Do I have to apply Teflon® Advanced, or any protector, to keep my warranty on stain resistant carpet?
A. While virtually every carpet manufacturer and fiber producer recommends the application of fluorochemical protectors on their stain resist carpets, application is not required to keep warranties in effect. The application of a silicone-based protector could void the warranty.

Q. Aren't all protectors out there really just the same thing with different names?
A. No. While the characteristics of most of the fluorochemical protectors are similar they are not identical. Some offer better repellency to water based agents, others resist oil better. Some help keep dry soil from sticking, and others offer various combinations of these characteristics. Some name brands even offer money-back satisfaction warranties with their product. Teflon® Advanced provides an unbeatable combination of stain and soil repellency, with superior repellency of both water- and oil-based stains.

Q. Is the warranty I can purchase with the application of protector the same as the warranty on new stain resistant carpet?
A. No. The warranty on new carpet guarantees that if the carpet fibers do not perform as warranted, the carpet will be repaired or replaced. The warranty on a protector guarantees that if the protector does not perform as warranted, the money paid will be refunded. Both warranties are valuable, but each is unique.

Q. Is it possible to "clean and protect" in one step by putting the protector in the cleaning solution?
A. While a form of this technology exists, it is not common or typically available to the general market. Typically, for good protection, the protector should be applied as an over spray after cleaning.

Q. When can I walk on my carpet after it has been treated with protector?
A. To promote bonding of the protector to the fibers, it is best to stay off of the carpet as much as possible while the drying process is complete. If it is necessary to walk on the carpet before it is dry, light traffic and clean socks are recommended.

Q. Is the protector I buy from my professional cleaner the same as the protector available in an aerosol spray at the supermarket?
A. The products are similar, but not identical. The propellant in the aerosol spray makes this form of application very expensive, and possibly environmentally unfriendly. The best value in wall-to-wall protector application is available from a professional cleaner. Make sure you ask for Teflon® Advanced by name.
